Several female students above sixth grade voiced concerns about their future as the final exams of school began in the country.

Some of the students said they are worried that they won't be allowed to study and participate in exams next year.

12-year-old Zahra, who is in the 6th grade, is preparing for tomorrow's exam.

She said she is afraid that won’t be allowed to continue her studies in school next year.

“When I sit on the chair solving the questions of the exam, I think of the issue of how many days remain and it will come to an end. If we study, we can build a society,” Zahra told TOLOnews.

Female students said the Islamic Emirate should reopen schools to allow girls above sixth grade to continue their education.

“We are very upset because schools are closed to all girls. All the girls are upset, because our schools are off and we cannot study,” said Nargis, a student.

“We ask the Islamic Emirate to reopen schools for girls and let them go to school,” said Shekaiba, another student.

Although the Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on this issue, it has said before that they are trying to provide the opportunity of education to girls in the country.

“Nobody has denied the education and work rights of females, but we need time and capacity building,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

Girls over the sixth grade have not been allowed to attend school for more than two years, and they have frequently requested to be allowed to return. The issue has sparked both internal and external reactions.
