Air Pollution Decreases in Kabul: NEPA

Officials of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) said that the rate of weather pollution compared to a few years ago has dropped from 500-mill micron to 250 mill micron on average in (24h) this year in the capital Kabul.

Speaking at a special TOLOnews program, the head of the office of air pollution management of NEPA, Toofan Jebran, emphasized that the issue of environmental protection should be a priority for the Islamic Emirate.

"The environmental issues should be prioritized by the Islamic Emirate. It was not prioritized by the former government," he said.

Jibran also indicated that the pauses on construction of some projects have had a negative impact on the environment.

He said that only one device to measure the air pollution in the capital exists.

Meanwhile, the former deputy head of NEPA, Ezatullah Sedeqi, said that there has not yet been any fundamental action to prevent air pollution. He also said that NEPA was not provided with enough funds during the former government.

He also said that 400 million Afs were allocated to purchase 10 devices to measure the air pollution but the devices have not been purchased.

Kabul has been repeatedly identified as one of the world’s most polluted cities. Every winter, the rate of air pollution increases at high levels.
