The prominent Quran reciter, Qari Barakatullah Saleem, was buried on Naderkhan hill of capital Kabul.
Qari Barakatullah Saleem died at age 72 from illness at a hospital in Kabul on Saturday.
“He has travelled to India and Pakistan for treatment. Then he was transferred here (Afghanistan),” said Nasratullah Saleem, son of Qari Barakatullah Saleem.
He was born in 1329 solar year in Haska Mina district of Nangarhar province. Qari Barakatullah Saleem started reciting the Quran at age 5 and succeeded in finishing it by age 9.
He also attended an international Quran reciting competition and won first position 8 times. Qari Barakatullah Saleem gained most of his education in Egypt.
Qari Barakatullah Saleem trained dozens of students in reciting the Quran and other religious fields.
Many top Afghan politicians reacted to Qari Barakatullah Saleem’s death.
Former President Hamid Karzai called Qari Barakatullah Saleem’s death a tragedy, saying that he was one of the most famous reciters and instructors around the Islamic world.
Abdullah Abdullah, the former chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) said that Qari Barakatullah Saleem was an example “for all” for his “high quality voice”.
“We offer condolences to the whole nation for his death," said Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate’s spokesman.
According to relatives of Qari Barakatullah Saleem, he was struggling from a disease for nearly five years and was under treatment.
