The Ministry of Interior reports that over 80,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in the capital city of Kabul. 

Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the ministry, said that these cameras have helped prevent numerous criminal incidents in the capital. 

Qani said that efforts are underway to increase the installation of these cameras throughout the capital and the provinces of the country.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said: “In central Kabul, approximately eighty thousand security cameras have been installed at various central locations, busy and critical points, which have had a positive effect. Through these, we have been able to arrest criminals or prevent certain incidents in a timely way.”

Many residents of the capital view the installation of Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as a positive action and urged officials to ensure these cameras remain operational throughout the city. 

They also requested the interim government to expand the installation of CCTV cameras to other provinces.

Velayat Khan, a resident of Kabul, said: “The installation of security cameras is good as long as they are active, not inactive. When a theft occurs, they say there was no electricity when you look at the security camera.”

Sayed Hussein, another resident of Kabul, said: “The cameras installed in the cities prevent theft, terror, and chaos in the city.”

Military affairs experts said the installation of CCTV cameras in the country are crucial for improving security conditions.

Mohammad Zalmay Afghanyar, a military affairs expert, said, “The installation of security cameras should be effective for crime investigators and also in bringing mental and psychological peace to the citizens.”

Previously, the Ministry of Interior reported that they had installed more than 62,000 security CCTV cameras in the city of Kabul.
