Bactrian Gold Collection Displayed at Presidential Palace

The Bactrian gold collection was displayed at the Presidential Palace 42 years after its discovery.

Over the past 13 years, the Bactrian gold collection have been displayed in 13 countries of the world which brought 350 million Afs in revenues for the government.

“The exhibition should be held in other places too so that the people can see it,” said visitor Shahbaz Ghawsi.

“Everyone wants this collection to he safeguarded,” said Fahim Rahimi, the head of the National Museum of Afghanistan.

“This gives confidence to the future generations in Afghanistan, that Afghanistan is an ancient country with a history that needs to be safeguarded,” said Maliha Jami, a senator.

The historical significance:

Displaying the Bactrian collection abroad has brought in over 350 million Afs ($4.5 million) for Afghanistan. It was displayed in 29 museums in 13 countries over the past 13 years.

The Bactrian gold is recognized as one of the biggest collections of gold in the world and was discovered 4 decades ago in the Tela Tapa area of Sherberghan district, the center of northern Jawzjan province. 

The collection is composed of jewels and gold and was discovered from a royal cemetery. 7 corpses were decorated with thousands of pieces of gold. 

The collection is composed of 21,145 pieces of gold.
