Free Trade Area Allocated for Afghan Traders in Chabahar

Abdul Salam Javad Akhundzada, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, has announced the establishment of a free trade area in the Chabahar port in Iran specifically for Afghan traders.

According to Javad, this zone provides significant facilities for the protection of the country's traders' goods in this port.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce told TOLOnews: “Chabahar port is one of the important commercial and transit routes for Afghanistan, and we have been able to make optimal use of this port by creating facilities such as providing land and a free trade zone for our trade, ensuring the protection of commercial goods there. Moreover, most of the exports and imports occur through the ports of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas.”

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment emphasized the need for thorough studies on exports and imports with neighboring countries, stating that necessary facilities must be created for Afghan traders to better compete with regional countries' export items.

Maiwand Hotak, the head of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, told TOLOnews: "Regarding exports and imports, precise studies must be conducted to understand how our goods can compete in various countries. Additionally, we should create conditions that facilitate the export of products from other countries that come to Afghanistan back to those countries."

Some economic experts also see the provision of various facilities for traders in different ports as beneficial.

Mohammad Shaker Yaqoobi, an economic expert, said: “The more trade facilities are created in ports and the more attention is paid to the quality of commercial services, the more positively it can impact the increase in trade volume and boost Afghanistan's exports to neighboring countries.”

According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, during the solar year 1402, Afghanistan's trade with Iran was valued at two billion and 25 million dollars, of which $33 million was accounted for exports.
