Over 4,000 COVID-19 Cases Registered Nationwide Since Early 2024

The Ministry of Public Health reports that since the beginning of 2024, more than 4,000 cases of COVID-19 have been registered across the country.

The spokesperson for the Ministry says that the number of people infected with the coronavirus has decreased compared to the year 2023.

“Since the beginning of 2024 until now, 4016 positive cases of coronavirus have been recorded across the country, which is a decrease in cases compared to the first quarter of 2023,” said Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health.

Gholam Mustafa, 54, who has been infected with COVID-19 twice before, is now hospitalized in the emergency section of the Afghan-Japan Hospital due to this disease.

Gholam Mustafa gave the story of his illness and hospitalization as follows: “It was the first of Saur when I was taken here, that night I had a severe attack, the oxygen was cut off, and I didn’t understand anything until we got here, the situation was very bad.”

Since 2019, the Afghan-Japan Hospital has been a treatment center for patients infected with the coronavirus. Officials from the COVID-19 department of the hospital report that in the last week, out of 89 tests conducted, 27 were positive.

“Last week, there were 89 visitors who came specifically for COVID-19 testing, out of which 27 tested positive,” said Shirin Agha, head of the Intensive Care Unit at Afghan-Japan Hospital.

Doctors explain the reason for the increase in the number of infected individuals as follows.

“During Eid, our people did not follow the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Public Health and doctors, especially regarding going to crowded places, the congregation of people, and not wearing masks,” said Inam Rahmati, a doctor.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health, over 100 centers across the country are active in diagnosing and treating COVID-19 patients.
