TAWDE KHABARE: War Intensifies as Peace Talks Resume
Fighting between Afghan and Taliban forces has intensified in Helmand as the peace talks resumed in Doha.
The Taliban in their agreement with the US signed in Doha in February committed to avoid attacking cities, but this week's ongoing attack on Lashkargah is one of the biggest attacks of the group since the agreement.
Qari Yusuf, a Taliban spokesman, told TOLOnews that they recaptured the areas that were taken by the government forces a few months ago.
“Lashkargah has not been attacked so far,” Qari Yusuf said. “The areas that were cleared of the enemy were taken by the Kabul forces some months ago.”
Sources in Helmand said that the Taliban has PD4 of Lashkargah under their influence.
Security officials have confirmed that clashes have happened in at least 20 provinces in the last few days amid the ongoing peace efforts in Doha.
