Anti-government Protests Erupt in Russia

Thousands of people have gathered in the Russian capital Moscow to protest against the government for they call ballot-rigging in parliamentary elections, reports say.

This is considered the biggest protest since the fall of the Soviet Union.

According to reports, around 50,000 protesters gathered on an island near the Kremlin to condemn alleged ballot-rigging in parliamentary elections.

Protesters are demanding a re-run and vowed to continue their protests if no one listens to them.
Some smaller rallies were also conducted in St Petersburg and other cities in which, despite divisions, communists, nationalists and Western-leaning liberals took part together.

The protesters think there was widespread fraud in Sunday's polls.

Results of the elections to Russia's Duma, United Russia saw its share of the vote fall from 64% to 49%, though it remains easily the biggest party, Officials have said.
