14 Soldiers Killed in Taliban Attacks in Two Provinces: Sources

At least 14 members of Afghan National Defense and Security Forces were killed in Taliban attacks in Kunduz and Kandahar over the last 24 hours, sources and provincial council members said.

Taliban attacked security a security outpost in Imam Sahib district in the northern province of Kunduz on Thursday night, killing nearly a dozen soldiers, a provincial council member and a security source said on Friday.

The attack comes amidst ongoing peace efforts in Doha in which negotiators from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Taliban have started discussions on the agenda for the talks.

The attack happened at around 11:00 pm on Thursday night on the Orta-Boz outpost in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz, a security source from the province said.

Rabbani Rabbani, a member of the Kunduz provincial council, said that at least 12 security force members and a civilian were killed and as many were wounded in the Taliban attack.

So far, there are no details about the Taliban’s casualties in the attack. 

Meanwhile, a security source from Kunduz said that the outpost fell to the Taliban and that at least 10 security force members were killed and at least 15 more were wounded in the attack.

Local officials and security agencies so far have not commented on the attack.

Unconfirmed reports say that the Taliban launched a drone attack on 217 Pamir Corps in Kunduz in which a military aircraft has been damaged. Local officials have not commented on this report. 

Meanwhile, one civilian was killed and seven members of the Afghan National Army were wounded in a car bomb explosion that was recognized before reaching its target, a local official said on Friday.

Two security force members were killed and seven more were wounded in a clash between the security forces and the Taliban in PD7 and PD8 of the southern city of Kandahar last evening, according to security sources.

Figures by security agencies indicate that parts of 21 provinces have witnessed clashes between government forces and the Taliban in the last 24 hours.

The Defense Ministry on Friday said that 118 Taliban members were killed in the clashes and more than 30 others were wounded.
