Nimroz Province to Have New Airport

An official in Ministry of Aviation and Transportation said on Saturday that the ministry is planning to build a new airport in southern Nimroz province.

The new airfield is sketched to be made in an area 14 square kilometers wide in a distant location from the provincial market.

Officials said the new airfield will be 17 km far from downtown Zaranj, provincial capital of Nimroz.

Officials in the ministry said the present airfield is located close to the central market in the province where considering the safety of flights, reconstruction of a new airport was required.

Presently the ministry has two million dollars to start primary reconstruction work of the airport.

"The airport will be 6.2 km long and 2.2 km wide. And it will be built along the main road that connects Nimroz with Farah province," Sayed Mahdi Sayedi, Technical Deputy in Aviation and Transportation Ministry, told TOLOnews.

Officials in transport ministry believe that the new airport will help increase the government income.

"It's a border province and since there are commercial sources, there is also a chance to increase government incomes," Mr Sayedi said.

The ministry is also planning to make some other airfields in different other provinces to ease flights and boost flight safety, according to the ministry.
