Woman Detained for 25 Years in House Receives Treatment

The woman who was freed by the Islamic Emirate's forces after 25 years of being detained in her house is presently receiving specialized treatment in one of the public hospitals.

The doctors of Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital said that the woman was not able to speak in the first days, but now she has started to speak little by little, and her health condition is getting better.

“When they brought her on the first day, she could not talk and was afraid to talk; but now she can talk a bit,” said Delbar Haidari, a doctor.

Nikbakht has spent twenty-five years of her life in a room without light.

"We were informed by the street children who used to come and go here that there is a person here who is a prisoner,” said Khadim Hossein Hosseini, community leader of the 10th district.

Ghulam Sakhi, Nikbakht's brother, who is currently in custody, regrets how he treated his sister.

“I have kept her in this house for twenty-five years, and I am sorry that I did not take good care of her,” Ghulam Sakhi told TOLOnews.

Meanwhile, the officials of the 10th district of Kabul city said that the forces of the Islamic Emirate rescued Nikbakht from her brother's handcuffs after a lot of searching.

The commander of Kabul's 10th district, Abdul Rahim Ajmal, said that Nikbakht's detainment was a result of family issues.

"She had been married for four years. Her husband divorced her due to lack of children, and she was living in her brother's house. Her brother was very cruel to her and that's why he imprisoned her in this room,” Ajmal said.
